I had no idea that this was even a thing. I doubt it would have been an option for my father as the psychiatrist insisted that he needed locked down memory care but it's something to keep in mind for the future.

Kirby, I'm so glad you said you had no idea resident care homes were even a thing! You're the reader I was hoping to find! Sorry I was too late for your dad, but you're right: to the best of my knowledge, they're never a secured community. I do know that lots of folks with dementia and alzheimer's successfully live in care homes for some time, but they then have to find another situation to handle increased needs. And that second move concerns me. Thanks so much for your comment!

Yes. Familiarity is a big deal. Dad kept asking to go home from both the hospital and memory care. Broke my heart. I can't imaging getting them accustomed to one place only to need to move them to something more suitable to their needs...but you do what you have to do.

Absolutely. We all do our best with what we know at any given time. He was fortunate to have you with him, looking out for him along the way.

Thank you for another option for our seniors. I never knew these homes existed; it was a real surprise, frankly. You gave us a clear picture of their possibilities and probing questions to ask. Once again you provided a real service to caregivers around the country and possibly around the world. I look forward to learning more.

Thank you, Judi, for always making me feel my writing is worthwhile and is potentially helping people. That's why I write. Between us, I know my job is the easy part, unlike the readers who have to put action into the equation. Although I've gone through whatever stages of caring they're involved with, I know they're on the hard side of loving someone. I want to help and share ideas. I always appreciate you sharing your thoughts. ❤
